Many Olympians Represent the Bay Area

Did you know that Californians make up a huge chunk of the US Olympic team?  Of the 530 American athletes, 128 are from California!

Orinda native water polo player, Heather Petri, says “The Bay Area is the perfect combination of climate and outdoor space.  It invigorates you to try sports. People flock here because of the opportunities.” (Mercury News)

Among the 128 athletes from California, many of them are Bay Area residents:

Shannon Rowbury, Track and Field, is from San Francisco.

Alexander Massialas, Fencing, is also from San Francisco.

 

Scott Weltz, Swimming, is from San Jose.

Nathan Adrian, also Swimming, is from Berkeley.

Kerri Walsh, Beach Volleyball, is from Santa Clara.

Scott Gault, Rowing, is from Piedmont

Kristin Hedstrom, Rowing, is from Oakland

Peter Varelles, Water Polo, is from Moraga
